Children and Family Ministry

Children's Church ... Every Sunday

Immediately following the Children's Sermon in the Sunday morning service, the children, ages 3 years to exiting 5th graders, are invited to go into the Fellowship Hall for a lesson and activity geared toward kids, based on the scripture readings of the day.

Advent Fundraiser:
Beginning December 1, the children of Grace will collect change to donate to the Lutheran Malaria Initiative.  Each child will be given a bank to store the change they collect.  All of the banks will be collected on December 24 at one of our Christmas Eve services.  This is a great opportunity to serve those in need and teach our children about stewardship and service.

Advent Play:
On Sunday, December 4, the children and youth at Grace will hold an Advent play during the Sunday School hour.  Parents will receive a flyer with all of the information regarding rehearsal times.

Family Advent Activity:
Sunday, December 11, the Education Ministry team of Grace and Miss Mollie's preschool will host a family-centered, multicultural Advent event beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 11.  Each culture brings its special customs to the celebration of Advent and we'd like to combine several traditions, share, learn and experience together the joyous anticipant of the coming of Christ.

Advent so often makes us think of light in the darkness, so we will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a candle making session where families can make an Advent candle to light at home followed by a short prayer service focusing on light.

Following that, we will enjoy the custom of Las Posadas, a tradition in Spain, Mexico and Guatemala.  This is a procession, with candles or other lights, of Mary, Joseph and followers to homes asking for shelter.  Fortunately, we know people in the neighborhood whose homes we can visit.  As happened in actuality, the seekers are turned away until they find a place of acceptance.  In our case, this will be when we return to church.

We will continue with a potluck meal and a pinata for the children (ending at 6:30 p.m.) and memories of old and new traditions shared within common beliefs.
