LWML [Lutheran Women's Missionary League] has been an active part of Grace Lutheran Church for many years. This means we are also apart of the Zone, District and National LWML programs. More detailed information will be forthcoming regarding Grace's LWML history, Mite Offerings, and mission project at all levels. Due to the economy there is a greater need for our Mite offerings; mission programs are funded as the mite offerings come in. If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Wednesdays: February 1,15, 22 & 29 are quilting days and our LWML Monthly meeting is February 8. All events take place at 10:00 a.m. in the kitchen area.
The next Prayer Shawl group meeting is Saturday, February 4 at 10:00 a.m.

LABEL COLLECTION: All church members are requested to save the "Labels for Education" emblems and bar codes from items like Campbell's soups and broths, Progresso Soups, etc. The "box top" emblems on things like Kleenex and Ziploc boxes. These are donated to Crossnore School. There is a box in the narthex for these donations.
| MITE OFFERINGS Each month money is collected for "mites" and for the general fund. The mite money is sent to the district. Twenty-five percent of the money is forwarded to international missions and the remaining 75% is used for mission work in the district. Another box in the narthex is ready for any donations and is greatly appreciated.

QUILTING WITH GRACE LUTHERAN AND THRIVENT Our LWML quilting group applied for and was awarded a grant from Thrivent in the amount of $400 ($200 to begin and another $200 in December on the completion of this year's quilting mission). The cost of batting, used between a backing piece and a squared top, has risen greatly this past year. The grant will allow us to purchase two 30' roles of batting, machine and hand-quilting thread and other quilting supplies. Our finished quilts are 60" x 80".
Our quilts will be on display in the church on LWML Sunday. Three have already been given to Grace seniors going off to college, one was given to the Picnic Committee, and the rest will be sent to Lutheran World Relief for distribution around the world.
Thank you Thrivent for helping us with our quilting ministry.

Quilt making. The quilts upon completion are sent to Lutheran World Relief which distributes quilts overseas during times of disasters; we also use some quilts when special needs occur locally. These quilts are usually displayed in the Sanctuary on LWML Sunday in October. Grace members are able to see the variety of quilts made during the year. 34 quilts were made during 2011: 3 were given to students going off to college, 1 was given to the Church Picnic for a drawing and 30 were sent to Lutheran World Relief.

Prayer Shawl Ministry. The Prayer Shawl ministry began last month. The shawls are made with love and prayers and given to people within the Congregation. If interested in knitting or crocheting Prayer Shawls, please talk with a member of this group. You can join and meet with the group once a month. You can also make shawls at home. Someone will be happy to teach you how to knit if you don't know how already or if you need to brush up on your knitting skills. Directions, copies of prayers and other materials are available.

2012 projects:
Urban Ministries--Donations of nonperishable foods are collected the first Sunday of the month and support those in need in the Durham area. To date, 119 pounds of food have been donated for Urban Ministries. Crossnore School--We save labels from Campbell's soup, V-8 bottles, Swanson broths and other products for the school. Only the bar code and the little child next to it are used. Crossnore is a residential school in the mountains of NC and helps a number of children. Please put your labels in the box in the narthex.
