Welcome to Miss Mollie?s School of Grace

Mission statement:
to awaken the spirit of each child to the love of God, the mind to the wonders of the universe He has created, and the character to those tools of self-discipline which help to create respect for both self and others.

Miss Mollie's School of Grace offers Monday through Friday half-day programs for three and four year old children and a two, three or five day weekly program for two-year-olds. Our primary goal is to provide a loving, small-group setting which encourages investigation and gently guides developing preschoolers. Our program is a combination of teacher-directed and free play activities, designed to stimulate curiosity and exploration in preschool children. As has often been noted by early childhood specialists: "Play is a child's work." Children are naturally curious and learn through their exploration of the world. When they explore their environment and are encouraged to creatively combine and synthesize their growing awareness, their "work" advances. Art, music, and fine and gross motor activities are all utilized to explore letter and sound recognition, number usage and concepts, socialization skills, and "independence skills." A Christian-based curriculum provides age-appropriate experiences to awaken spiritual awareness.

Miss Mollie's is named in memory of a young child who became part of our church family when she was brought to Duke for treatment of leukemia. Mollie's life was short, but her memory lives on to remind us that each child is uniquely created, and each life is precious. Our current children come to us come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, and it is our joy to affirm and recognize each one's individuality. Realizing, also, that young families are often separated by distance from the support of extended families, it has been our pleasure to provide a network of surrogate aunts, uncles, grandparents, and siblings to interact with and support both parents and children.
