As a part of our Advent observances at Grace, we are making use of Concordia Publishing’s Behold the Child materials for worship. Our web devotions through Christmas will be guided by Pastor Kevin Golden’s devotional booklet written in support of the Behold the Child theme (you may purchase a downloadable copy of Pr. Golden’s book by following this link).
Prayer Pointers:
For the glory of the Lord to shine in your life
To know Jesus as refuge
Text: Psalm 2:12
As your refuge, [Jesus] has defeated whatever troubles you so that you need not fear it. –Pr. Golden
ONE OF THE ENDURING IMAGES of the season is of family and/or friends gathered snug around a fire, with presents, holiday grub, and potent potables at the ready--even as the weather outside is most frightful.
But there is only one answer to the storms that rage, to the chill that is in our hearts, to the poverty of our loves and lives.
"I have news of exceeding great joy for every single person! Today, in King David's city, is born a Savior, anointed by God and Lord of all."
To everyone on the front lines, to all who are at home; to everyone who is frustrated by the past, or worried for the future; to all who are at ease and all who are facing hardship--the Lord our refuge has arrived and is on the way!
May you know Christmas joy ~ Pr. Dave Brooks
