Prayer Pointers:

For growth in your prayer life

For those who have asked for your prayers

Today’s text: Colossians 4:2-18

AS IS HIS PATTERN, St. Paul finishes this letter with both greetings from and to others, and a series of instructions, practical guidance on “how to do the things of Jesus and the kingdom.” His request for continual prayer suggests that the Colossians should already have a foundation in prayer from previous instruction and now should build on that.

When you consider the foundation of your prayer life, what do you see? While some of us may have been blessed with examples and teachers in prayer, others of us may have had to work out the groundwork and the structure ourselves. It is not always easy to build something without any guidance, but if you are hoping for growth in your prayer life, remember one thing above all:

GOD WANTS TO TALK WITH ME.

In the end, prayer is conversation, so say a bit, and then listen a bit. Say some more. Listen some more. Use some of the forms that have been given us, like the Lord’s Prayer, or the St. Francis Prayer, or the prayers in the Small Catechism. Above all, don’t give up! Remember

GOD WANTS TO TALK WITH ME.
