Text: John 14:1-14.

John 14:2 "In my Father's house there are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you, I go to prepare a place for you."

This verse, taken in context, say a great deal. It also was my sister's favorite Bible verse. Reading this verse reminded me of a conversation I recently had at the church office concerning her.

Several years ago, her church in Burlington was preparing for their third mission trip to Peru. They went every two years for two weeks. Her church was blessed to have a couple of dentists, an optometrist, a doctor and a number of professional assistants.

The first summer that they went, she was asked to go. After she explained that she did not have the skills needed for such an event, the organizer told her, "you taught for forty-two years. Who is better at keeping people in lines and properly registered and organized than a teacher?" She went both of the first two summers and when she returned, it took another week to get her system back to normal.

This third summer, I asked if she really thought she should go. She said it was a job that she could do that needed to be done.

Then she said "what if Jesus had said 'You want Me to leave the comforts of Heaven and the infinite love of the Father to go to earth to be physically and verbally abused, and up on a cross and take the sins of mankind on myself?'" But there was a job to be done that He (and only He could do).

And there are jobs to be done that each of us can do for Christ.
