Text: Luke 9:37-50

And Jesus answering said, “O fathers and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you and suffer you? Bring thy son here.” Luke 9:41

Here we find Jesus fresh from the Transfiguration, being approached by a man whose son is possessed. The disciples have tried to cast out the demon but could not. It appears, on the surface, that Jesus is admonishing His disciples for having to little faith. But Jesus is somewhat lamenting that He has so little time left and so much to teach the disciples so they can carry His work forward after He is gone.

With the standstill that the Covid has put us under, there are many times that I feel the same way. As Vince Lombardi once said, “It’s not so much that I am afraid of death, but there is so much left undone.” Even feeling this way, I sometimes waste time that could be put to a much better use. There are so many things that become problems that if handled in time would only have been a nuisance.

I thank God that His Son, Jesus Christ, didn’t waste the time or the apostles would never have spread the word as they did. And the world we live in now with the violence and the greed would be so much worse. And most of all we might not have gotten the word and be assured of a place of everlasting life and peace.
