Prayer Pointers:

To rejoice that many are entering the kingdom of God

To remember your calling

Today’s text: Luke 5:27-39

WE, SELF-ESTEEM EXPERTS THAT WE ARE, like to think that we are doing the Lord a favor by showing up for his parties. We have talents, resources; we are the kinds of people that organizations seek; we have other things that we could be doing, so we hope that at least He notices that we came, important folks that we are!

But the Lord, wise that he is, sees our hearts, knows our thoughts, understands our needs. He calls us because he sees that we are sick, even unto death and it is only his intervention that will cure us. Often the very thing that we think best about ourselves is the cancer that is draining life away.

The deeper wisdom is when you and I discover that we are no better than those whom we look on with disdain, and that we have been called to dine with a man who is not picky about his dinner guests—and that is the wonderful part of it!
