Today’s text: John 2:1-12
JOHN REPORTS THAT the wedding party at Cana was the “first” of the signs that Jesus did which revealed him as the bearer of God’s glory, the Beloved Son, the Lamb that takes away all sin. This initial story from John tells us of the ministry of Jesus in a nutshell: he comes to us in our troubles; he supplies our every need; and from his riches the ordinary, even bland things of daily living become rich, flavorful, full of possibility.
Jesus, come! With new creation,
Heaven brought near in power divine;
Give your unexpected glory,
Changing water into wine.
Rouse the faith of your disciples—
Come our first and greatest Sign!
