Prayer Pointers:

To remain connected to the True Vine

To not be afraid as God prunes and shapes your life

Today’s text: John 15:1-11

THERE IS AN OLD JEWISH tradition that declares that the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden was a grapevine. We may scoff at the idea that a vine could be mistaken as a tree, but other ancient sources regularly describe unpruned grapevines with their large, sinewy trunks as trees, and certain pagan temples were built partly on columns made from harvested grapevine trunks of astonishing size.

What is worthy of thought is the idea that the Tree that overcame Adam and Eve—a vine whose fruit “opened” their eyes —is now the Tree by which Christ overcomes the sin of Adam, and opens our eyes to the power of God's love.
