Text: Isaiah 44:24-45:7

Prayer Pointers:

For those who strive

For good soil that produces fruit

For unbelievers to know the glory of God

As a child, I remember waking up in the morning, getting dressed and going downstairs to immediately hear comments, like “did you finish you homework; don’t forget to comb your hair, or you can’t go to school looking like that.” I may not have been aware of it then, but what I was longing for first thing in the morning was for a tender touch, loving look, familiar smell or something that would tell me that I was loved, I was enough. Whether or not this was your experience, I am sure you’ve had an experience where you got the message that you’re not enough, perhaps relating to your work, your weight, your parenting skills…the list could go on and on.

I have good news for you. In Isaiah 44:24 it says, “Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb.’ You see, in God defining himself as Redeemer, he shows he creates his people with their redemption in Christ clearly in view. (LSB notes). Because of what Christ has done for us and we are clothed in his righteousness, God says, “you are my beloved child. I know your name. I love you. You are enough. I know you will fail, and I have taken care of that so you may live life fully.” Recently someone pointed out to me that in the story of the rich man (Mark 10:17-22), this is the only recording in the Bible of Jesus looking at someone and telling him He loved him. Jesus said this to the man knowing full well that he would turn away, just like we often do.

And that’s just it, isn’t it…because we are redeemed, God loves us knowing that sometimes the Word will fall on the bad soil of our hearts, and yet, God as our redeemer, transforms that bad soil into the fertile soil that produces the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

May you rest in His righteousness.
